Some Thoughts About Craneland - I Mean, Dubai

Comments

I saw a documentary on Dubai. It was about the lack of water. Everyone is building as though they have an abundance of water. It's interesting that you mentioned the tower of Babel. Dubai has oil but they have no water. They seem to have forgotten.
Wow, no water? Maybe they would benefit from using all of that brilliance and technology to turn salt water into fresh water on a massive scale.

The documentary mentioned something with that very idea but they are too busy building to worry about water right now. Another embarassment in the making.

While Dubai seems like it would be a fun place to visit, their culture is going to need some renovation as well to make it palatable to western tourists. Public displays of affection (kissing, hugging, etc) are illegal and if you do a search in news articles, you'll read about couples who are being held in Dubai in jail waiting sentencing for it.
Maybe the city is not thriving as much as the program portrayed. I'm wondering if the program was even paid for in order to attract more tourists. Still, it certainly caught my attention.... although everything seems to catch my attention these days.
