Just An Itty Bitty Political Reminder
I'm realizing that some people still do not know the current issues or they seem to be making a sort of blind vote for the next president of the United States. To discourage that, here are the names and links to each candidate's website:
Bob Barr (Libertarian) http://www.bobbarr2008.com/splash/?s0618
John McCain (R) http://www.johnmccain.com
Ralph Nader (Independent) http://www.votenader.org
Barack Obama (D) http://www.barackobama.com
Another way to make the best decision is to think about issues that are important to us personally. For example, I would like to know where each candidate stands regarding the freedom to homeschool in America, and also what does each candidate think about sustainable farming and GMO foods? These issues are not only important to me but I believe they concern the welfare of my friends, family and American people.
"It has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried." ~ Sir Winston Churchill
Another way to to decide the best candidate is to decide which one would best support a democracy - not a capitalist democracy, nor a socialist one. A true democracy is one where the people have freedom to live. The people are not dependent on big business nor on big government, but we have the freedom to do things for ourselves - those things that are important to us. A democracy would enable any citizen to start their own business and to choose their form of religion, education, health, and society.... Whether or not democracy has succeeded in our country is not the issue, but fighting for a democracy is vital to our well-being as a whole.
Why should we concern ourselves with the election of the next United States President? Many people feel as though their vote does not really count or they mistrust politicians and can not support any of them. This is quite understandable but when we do not exercise our rights, we tend to lose them. Somebody or something else takes command of the ship. As bleak as it may look sometimes, I do not ever want to give up hope for the voice of the people. As much as we love happiness and as much as we love our neighbor, we will want to vote.
